SuperDuper! overview

SuperDuper! is an advanced, yet easy to use disk copying program. It can, of course, make a straight copy, or "clone" - useful when you want to move all your data from one machine to another, or do a simple backup. In moments, you can completely duplicate your boot drive to another drive, partition, or image file.

Clones for safety. To ensure you can safely roll back a system after the unexpected occurs. With a few clicks, you can easily "checkpoint" your system, preserving your computer's critical applications and files while you run on a working, bootable copy. If anything goes wrong, just reboot to the original. When you do, your current Documents, Music, Pictures - even iSync data - are available! You can get back to work immediately.

Clones for industry! SuperDuper has enough features to satisfy the advanced user, too. Its simple-but-powerful Copy Script feature allows complete control of exactly what files get copied, ignored, even aliased ("soft linked" for the Unix inclined) from one drive to another.

What’s new in version 3.11

Enhancements

Initial macOS 26 Tahoe compatibility: SuperDuper v3.11 is compatible with macOS Tahoe, albeit with some known issues (see below).
Deletion metrics: We now track, display, and log the Smart Update metrics for items deleted from the destination volume.
More convenient access to scheduled copy logs: You can now use Window >Show Log to show the logs for the Scheduled Copies selected when the Scheduled Copies window is active.
Easier Access to saved copy scripts: The File menu now has an entry to open the Copy Scripts folder so you can rename or delete them.
Automatic updates: Our Automatic Update feature has improved reliability and provides additional assistance if an automatic upgrade fails. (Alas, you won’t experience these changes until the next update, but hey, something to look forward to.)
Better exception handling: There is no such thing as bug-free software and SuperDuper is no “exception” (rimshot). We’ve improved the user experience to handle the rare case when the unexpected happens more gracefully.

Security Fixes

Bug Fixes

Stale snapshots: We’ve improved the reliability of un-mounting existing SuperDuper snapshots.
Dark mode fixes: We corrected some things that had insufficient contrast under Dark Mode.
Under the hood improvements: A number of UI tweaks and under-the-hood improvements/bug fixes for a smoother user experience.

Known Issues

Scheduling: Under Tahoe, if the screen is off, but the Mac is in “dark wake”, scheduled copies start but can’t continue. For now, we turn the screen on when a schedule starts. We’re (still) working with Apple to find a solution.
User interface: A key control does not render correctly under Liquid Glass, so until we figure out a fix we’ve opted out of the new style.

I have been using SuperDuper for over a decade now. There is no better clone app out there! I have used CCC (CarbonCopyCloner) and SuperDuper is superior! It has a great GUI, and is Super Stable and is a great insurance policy for your data when you do upgrades and bootable back-ups. Being able to create bootable back-ups gives you piece of mind that if you upgrade the OS, you can always go back to your previous OS. Finally the customer support is bar-none… I upgraded to 3,8, and experienced a minor issue and emailed their support email, and received real time suggestions and solutions… It ended up I just had to reboot my laptop, and then wait patiently for SuperDuper to do its thing….. and success… I was able to upgrade and maintain a ‘safety’ copy …just in case. I purchased this software 10 years ago , and I’m still receiving FREE upgrades and customer support…. It’s the best 29$ I have spent on my Mac! I HIGHLY Recommend this application for all users. You make a clone on an external SSD, and if your hardware fails or is compromised you take your ‘clone’ to any Mac and pick up where you left off, and then when you replace your hardware you merely copy your clone to the new device and you are back in business … right where you left off. Have no doubt this application delivers on all fronts, and the free tech support pays for itself with your first email!

Version: 3.11

Version 3.11 is NOT compatible with Tahoe. Here is what is stated on the SuperDuper! site: "Version 3.11 supports bootable backups for Tahoe (via the v3.20 Beta, offered automatically) Sequoia, Sonoma, Ventura, Monterey, Big Sur, is Apple silicon native, adds Dark Mode support, and improves Cloud file handling.". (Note that Tahoe support is via the v3.20 Beta). Looking at Shirt Pocket Watch, David clearly says that v3.20 beta is compatible with Tahoe, except it does not fully support "dark mode". And the upcoming FULL release of SuperDuper! that will be fully compatible with Tahoe is V4.0. Given that Tahoe V26.2 is still in beta, I am sticking with Sequoia V15.7.1 and SuperDuper V3.11 for now. As it is, there is noting earth shattering in Tahoe for me. Sequoia is stable, fully functional, and is STILL fully supported by Apple. I can wait until V4.0 of SuperDuper! arrives, along with a stable version of Tahoe.

The Dev is now offering v3.10.0 BETA on their Blog page. It is at the end of a long blog article about overcoming the bootability problem. Because it's beta, I won't drop the quite long Release Notes. The new features and fixes are extensive, including restored bootability! I'm currently testing it. . . . Meanwhile, v3.9.1 is out.

v3.9.1 (v134) is out. "• Bug Fixes: • Fixed Catalina Cache Rebuilding. A symlink related issue caused dynamic library cache rebuilding failures under Catalina."

I have to add to my previous comment the fact that both, CCC 7 and SD are not capable of making bootable drives at the moment. However, making a working bootable disk is very limited these days due to apple's security measures. My review is about the fact that, compared to CCC 7, Superduper is very buggy. Most of the times it gives me problems: errors, freezing app etc. It also is very limited compared to CCC 7. Developer of Super Duper still advertises and sells this app capable of making bootable disks (and it once was very capable of doing this) but the app is not capable of doing this anymore, probably won't in the future either. Without this function the app is extremely limited and, in my opinion, not worth any money...

App doesn't work since OSX update to 15.2. Dev. is blaming Apple for it but Carbon Copy Cloner is working just fine. Otherwise the app behaves buggy, lot of stability problems, freezing app, etc. Developers, do not ask money for apps that do not work while blaming Apple for it. When you sell something it is your responsibility to make it work! I do not recommend this app for now.
